POLAND: GROWTH FOR POLIFARB BECKERS

Article Abstract:

Alcro-Beckers of Sweden is taking its Polish subsidiary Debica-based Polifarb Beckers from the stock exchange in order to "strengthen the company's position in the market". Polifarb Beckers Poland's third-biggest coatings producer and holds 7-10% of the domestic paint and varnish market. Especially the company's inexpensive latex paints for indoors are popular. In the first 11 months of 1999 Polifarb Beckers generated a turnover of Zl 157.3mn, compared with Zl 148.5mn in the whole of 1998.

POLAND: POLIFARB OLIVA TO BE PRIVATISED

Article Abstract:

Polish Gdynia-based Polifarb Oliva, which used to be the leading supplier of marine coatings to the Soviet Union, Bulgaria and Romania, is to be privatised. Unnecessary property is to be sold and staff is to be reduced in order to make the company more attractive. In 1998 Polifarb Oliva made a profit of Zl 200,000 on a turnover of Zl 44.5mn. The Polish market for marine paints is dominated by international groups such as Hempel, International and Jotun.

Polifarb Kalisz erweitert seine Produktion

Article Abstract:

The Polish company Estroken Chemie is said to be interested in taking over a majority stake in Poland's only producer of ultramarine, in Kalisz. Estroken is backed by foreign funding. This follows the failure of the sale of the company to Ultramarinfabrik Schindlerswerke in March 1998. The Kalisz plant that produces ultramarine and paints is planning to start making powder coatings as well. In 1997 the company generated sales of Zl 6.35mn. *
