Papers from the International Symposia on Polyelectrolytes meeting in Lund, Sweden, June 15-19, 2002

Article Abstract:

Polyelectrolytes 2002 meeting, which was held in Lund, Sweden, was the fourth in a series of International Symposia on Polyelectrolytes (ISP) that began in 1995. Bringing together the scientists working in the field of polyelectrolytes, a subject that is relevant to problems in biology, in the development of new materials, and in numerous industrial applications, was the mission of the ISP organization.

Lysozyme adsorption to charged surfaces. a Monte Carlo study

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted, using Monte Carlo simulations, to investigate the lysozyme adsorption to charged surfaces at different protein concentrations, protein net charges, ionic strengths, and surface charge densities. The result shows that the short-range attraction between the proteins increased the adsorbed amount, as well as the structure in the adsorbed protein layer.

Monte Carlo simulations of polyelectrolyte-protein complexation

Article Abstract:

The complexation between one polyelectrolyte and one protein is examined by using a simple model system solved by Monte Carlo simulations. It is found that the complexation depends decisively on the charge status of the protein model and on the presence of the short-range attractive interaction.
