Microcalorimetric investigation of AOT self-association in oil and the state of pool water in water/oil microemulsions

Article Abstract:

Microcalorimetric measurements were performed to study the reverse micelle formation of aerosol-OT (AOT) in n-heptane, n-octane, isooctane, n-decane and eucalyptol. Results showed that the enthalpy values of water dissolution in AOT/oil forming microwater pools are dependent on the water/AOT values, with the dissolved water possibly existing in three states. The dispersion of a water-forming microemulsion was also found to be an entropy-controlled process.

Structure and properties of low molecular weight amphiphilic peptide hydrogelators

Article Abstract:

The preparation and structural properties of thermoreversible hydrogelators of simple cationic dipeptide amphiphiles that exhibit a wide range of minimum gelation concentration is demonstrated. The hydrogels could find potential applications as biomaterials due to the presence of a biodegradable amide linkage susceptible to base or enzyme-catalyzed hydrolysis.
