Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) microparticles produced by radiation pressure of a focused laser beam: A structure analysis by confocal Raman microspectroscopy combined with a laser-trapping technique

Article Abstract:

A study develops a confocal Raman microspectroscopy system that is combined with a laser trapping technique and applied it to aqueous solutions (H2O and D2O) of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPA), which is well-known as a representative thermo-responsive polymer. The fundamental mechanism underlying the transformation of the higher order structure of a polymer by radiation pressure is discussed.

Laser-driven shock wave-induced triboluminescence of an organic crystal: Toward a semiquantitative study

Article Abstract:

A novel technique for studying triboluminescence (TL) of organic crystals is proposed. The dynamic behavior of the crystal fracture and the transient intensity of the TL were found interrelated with each other, and the results demonstrate that the present method provides novel means of investigating TL phenomena semiquantitatively in a noncontact mode.

Phase separation dynamics of aqueous solutions of thermoresponsive polymers studied by a laser T-jump technique

Article Abstract:

The dynamic behavior of the phase separation of aqueous solutions is analyzed by a laser T-jump method. The studies have shown that the values of time constants increased linearly with increasing square of hydrodynamic radius.
