Polyelectrolytes at charged particles: particle number density, molecular weight, and charge ratio effects

Article Abstract:

Zeta potential and light scattering measurements were used to investigate the effect of molecular weight, particle number density, and charge ratio on the colloidal behavior of positively charged polystyrene particles (PSA) in the presence of the natural polyanion carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC). It was indicated that the charge ratio R and polyelectrolyte molecular chain length mainly control the colloidal state of charged particles in the presence of oppositely charged polyelectrolytes.

Single-chain properties of polyelectrolytes in poor solvent

Article Abstract:

The behavior of a dilute solution of strongly charged polyelectrolytes in poor solvents was studied by using molecular dynamics simulations, which took into account the counterions. It was observed that the conformation could be highly affected by even small changes in the charge fraction of the chain due to the delicate interplay between counterion distribution and chain conformation.

Thermodynamic study of polyelectrolytes in aqueous solutions without assed salts: A transition from neutral to charged macromolecules

Article Abstract:

A systematic study of aqueous solutions of uni-and polyvalent salts of a strong acid type of polyelectrolyte with very low and medium charge density was carried out after application of a special purification method to minimize the effect of ionic contamination. The osmotic propertied of such systems, the degree of dissociation and related quantities are discussed.
