Polyion complex nanomaterials from block polyelectrolyte micelles and linear polyelectrolytes of opposite charge: 1. Solution behavior

Article Abstract:

The investigation of whether block polyelectrolyte micelles can form soluble complexes upon interaction with oppositely charged linear polyelectrolytes is presented. Complex solubility and molecular characteristics have depended on the chemical nature of the linear polyelectrolyte and the linear polyelectrolytes have formed soluble complexes with micelles if soluble complexes are formed with the corresponding linear analogues of the block polyelectrolyte.

Simple model for the binding of a polyelectrolyte to an oppositely charged curved surface

Article Abstract:

A simple model for binding of persistence-length segments of a polyelectrolyte to an oppositely charged spherical macroion with radius of the same order as the polymer persistence length is presented. The model predicts transitions to bound-state stability in the same conditions and also calculates why macroscopic phase separation occurs in experiments below a critical salt concentration.

Wave patterns driven by chemomechanical instabilities in responsive gels

Article Abstract:

A study on chemomechanical mechanism leading to morphogenetic instabilities is demonstrated experimentally. The results reveal that in constant and uniform nonequilibrium chemical environment the responsive gel undergoes large amplitude dynamical deformations under the form of traveling contraction waves and complex spatio-temporal volume oscillations.
