Preparation of carbon-coated cobalt nanocrystals in a new gas blow arc reactor and their characterization

Article Abstract:

Carbon-coated cobalt nanocrystals were produced through a modified technique of arc discharge under a He gas blow around a graphite rod cathode. The morphology and structure of the carbon coating and the cobalt enclosure were studied through high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, Raman scattering and X-ray diffraction. The magnetic characteristics of these particles after acid treatment were measured through a vibrating sample magnetometer and a thermogrametric analyzer in a magnetic field gradient.

Emission characteristics of silver atoms in gamma-irradiated organic solid solutions at 77 K

Article Abstract:

The optical absorption, steady-state emission and excitation spectra of Ag0 atoms produced by gamma-irradiation at 4 or 77 K in aqueous, ethanol, and 2-methyltetrahydrofuran (MTHF) solutions with Ag+ of 0.015 M have been studied. It has been observed that two main emission bands exist at 500 and 580 nm. Increasing the concentration of Ag+ in both solutions increased the intensity of the 500 nm band but decreased the intensity of the 580 nm band.

Recombination reactions of oxygen atoms on an anodized aluminum plasma reactor wall, studied by a spinning wall method

Article Abstract:

The recombination of O atoms on an anodized Al surface in oxygen plasma is studied using a new spinning wall technique and a multisite adsorption model is developed. The model reproduces the observed shapes of the O2 desorption decay curves and the lack of detectable desorption of O and predicts a high O-atom recombination coefficient on anodized aluminum with several adjustable parameters.
