RUSSIA: GROWTH IN COATINGS MARKET
Article Abstract:
In the first half of year 2000, Russia's consumption of paints and varnishes increased 23.5%. Domestic producers accounted for more than 75% of the increase. The country's production of paints and varnishes increased 20% to 298,800 tonnes. Exports grew 3.6% to 17,200 tonnes and went mainly to the Commonwealth of Independent States. Imports surged 38.5% in volume to 49,600 tonnes and 11.8% in value. Germany supplied 12,300 tonnes of the total.

RUSSIA: BASF IN COIL COATINGS PARTNERSHIP
Article Abstract:
BASF Coatings AG of Munster, Germany, has agreed upon long-term cooperation in the field of coil coatings with OAO Nolvolipetzkij Metallurgitscheskij Kombinat (NLMK). The combine in Lipezk produces primarily coils for the construction sector. Under the agreement, BASF Coatings will supply no less than 50% of the coil coatings. In summer 2001 a Pevicoat Technical Service Center is to become operational in Lipezk.

Venezuela: Growth in coatings market
Article Abstract:
The market for paints and varnishes in Venezuela is forecast to continue to grow at a rate of about 4% in 2002. Best potential is seen for architectural paints. In 2000 Venezuela's imports of paints and varnishes amounted to 44,120 tonnes worth US$ 107.9mn.
