Second virial coefficient measurements of dilute gold nanocrystal dispersions using small-angle X-ray scattering

Article Abstract:

Small-angle X-ray scattering is used to study the size-dependent two-body solvent-mediated interparticle interactions between dodecanethiol-coated gold nanocrystals in dilute toluene dispersions. The second virial coefficient B2 is measured as a function of nanocrystal diameter and compared to theoretical predictions, using a modified Zimm analysis of concentration-dependent X-ray scattering data.

On the performance of Au(111) for ethylene epoxidation: A density functional study

Article Abstract:

A periodic density functional study of the epodixation mechanism of ethylene on Au(111) is presented. The transition state theory rate constants for the elementary steps involved in the reaction have predicted that the selectivity of Au(111) toward epoxide is of approximately 40%, which is in good agreement with the experimental findings for styrene epoxidation on Au(111).

Modification of ATRP surface-initiated poly(hydroxyethyl methacrylate) films with hydrocarbon side chains

Article Abstract:

Poly(hydroxyethyl methacrylate) films are grown onto gold via water-accelerated, surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP), and the resulting side chains were modified by reaction with alkanoyl chlorides. The results illustrate the important effect on barrier properties of unreacted hydroxyl groups.
