Simultaneous time- and wavelength-resolved fluorescence microscopy of single molecules

Article Abstract:

Single fluorophores and single-pair fluorescence resonance energy transfer are studied with a new confocal fluorescence microscope that allows, the wavelength and emission time of each detected photon to be simultaneously measured with single molecule sensitivity. The initial results from a simultaneous time- and wavelength-resolved single molecule confocal microscope system are presented.

Role of standard chemical potential in transport through anisotropic media and asymmetrical membranes

Article Abstract:

The direct transport of nonelectrolyte in an anisotropic media and then through the asymmetrical membrane, where the standard chemical potential is not constant from point to point is discussed. It is shown that an asymmetrical media, but not a membrane separating two similar phases, can act as a diffusion-based diode. Asymmetry also allows additional improvement of membrane selectivity.

Diffusion bias and photophysical dynamics of single molecules in unsupported lipid bilayer membranes probed with confocal microscopy

Article Abstract:

Scanning confocal fluorescence microscopy is used to study the dynamic properties of single fluorescent lipid molecules in unsupported planar bilayers. The energy gained by the bilayer portion illuminated with the laser (0.04-1.3 mW) gives a baseline potential that approaches kT.
