Single-pulse measurements of fluorescence lifetimes: the influence of solvent on the isomerization of trans-stilbene included in zeolites

Article Abstract:

An indirect method for measuring short-lived fluorescence lifetimes with a single laser pulse was developed and used for evaluating the fluorescence lifetime of trans-stilbene in zeolites Y and ZSM-5 under various conditions like low temperature and in the presence of coadsorbed solvents. It is seen that the stilbene motion is enhanced by the addition of small amounts of water, whereas this motion is reduced due to the saturation of the zeolite by either water or cyclohexane.

A substrate-independent approach for cyclodextrin functionalized surfaces

Article Abstract:

6-Amino-6-deoxy-beta-cyclodextrin can be immobilized on a range of solid surfaces through reaction with a predeposited pulsed plasma poly(glycidyl methacrylate) layer. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy and quartz crystal microbalance measurements are used to monitor guest-host interactions between N,N-dimethylformamide or cholic acid and surface-tethered 6-amino-6-deoxy-beta-cyclodextrin barrels.

Switching liquid repellent surfaces

Article Abstract:

Cationic fluorosurfactants complexed to maleic anhydride plasma polymer layers is observed to undergo surface reconstruction in response to their local liquid environment. Repetitive alternation between oleophobic and hydrophilic behavior is seen.
