Small systems thermodynamics of polymer-surfactant complex formation

Article Abstract:

The small systems thermodynamics of polymer-surfactant complex formation at three structural levels have been investigated. The structural levels are the macroscopic system, the small system and the subsystem, and the internal structure of the small system is described as a fluctuation product of a set of open subsystems of surfactant aggregates and polymer segments. It was found that the polymer-surfactant interaction is not dependent on the polymer molecular weight, and that the mean aggregation number of surfactants in the complex increases as the bound amount increases.

Photophysical and nonlinear absorptive optical limiting properties of (60)fullerene dimer and poly(60)fullerene polymer

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the photophysical characteristics and nonlinear absorptive optical limiting responses of the (60)fullerene dimer and poly(60)fullerene polymer in room-temperature solutions. The samples were evaluated by UV/vis absorption, 13C nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight methods. Results indicated that the photophysical properties of the C60 dimer were similar to methano, pyrrolidino and amino-C60 derivatives.
