Solid-state thermochromism studied by variable-temperature diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. A new perspective on the chromism of salicylideneanilines

Article Abstract:

A successful application of variable-temperature diffuse reflectance spectroscopy is reported for the study of the solid-state thermo- and photochromism of salicylideneanilines that belong to a class of the most well-know chromic organic compounds. It is demonstrated that the color of the materials is controlled by a trace of colored species and that the variable-temperature diffuse reflectance spectroscopy is quite an effective tool for its detention and therefore the study of the chromism in the solid state.

Direct observation of surface ethyl to ethane interconversion upon C(sub 2)H(sub 4) hydrogenation over Pt/Al(sub 2)O(sub 3) catalyst by time resolved FT-IR spectroscopy

Article Abstract:

Time-resolved FT-IR spectra of ethylene hydrogenation over alumina-supported Pt catalyst are recorded at 25 ms resolution in the temperature range of 323-473 K using various H(sub 2) concentrations (1 atm total gas pressure). It is observed that a fraction (twenty five percent) of the asymptotic ethane growth at 323 K is prompt, which indicates that there are surface ethyl species that react much faster than the majority of the CH(sub 3)CH(sub 2)Pt intermediates.

Lennard-Jones model of frequency-selective barochromism and thermochromism of spectral holes in glasses

Article Abstract:

Pressure and temperature effects on (quasi) homogenous optical spectra of dyes in solvent glasses and polymers were investigated by hole burning. The relevance of the Lennard-Jones model approach, with respect to temperature and pressure broadening and linear electron-phonon coupling is discussed in short.
