Solvation thermodynamics: Theory and applications

Article Abstract:

Potential distribution and coupling parameter theories are combined to interrelate previous solvation thermodynamic results and derive several new expressions for the solvent reorganization energy at both constant volume and constant pressure. The results are used to extract numerical values of the solute-solvent mean interaction energy and associated fluctuation entropy directly from experimental solvation thermodynamic measurements.

Rectified second law of thermodynamics

Article Abstract:

The results of nineteenth century thermodynamics were combined with Chris Jarzynski's late twentieth century irreversible work theorem in order to rectify second-law inequalities by converting them to equalities that can be used to experimentally quantify irreversible entropy productions. General equations were derived for entropy production in terms of irreversible work and heat transfers from the Jarzynski theorem.

Intermolecular forces and bond length changes in high-pressure fluids. Vibrational spectroscopic measurement and generalized perturbed hard fluid analysis

Article Abstract:

Pressure-dependent vibrational frequency shifts are used to measure intermolecular-interaction-induced forces and bond length changes in solution. The result indicates marked differences in the density dependence of the attractive solvation force along different types of bonds.
