Spectroscopy on single light-harvesting complexes at low temperature

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to examine the fluorescence of individual light-harvesting 2 (LH2) complexes from Rhodopseudomonas acidophila via confocal microscopy in a temperature range from 300 to 7 K. Changes in the polarization of the fluorescence emission of single complexes on a time scale from milliseconds to seconds were observed under ambient conditions. Results provide insight into the physics of the energy level scheme of the B850 aggregate as well as the physics of the energy transfer within LH2.

Multifrequency EPR investigation of dimanganase catalase and related Mn(super III)Mn(super IV) complexes

Article Abstract:

The superoxidized Mn(super III)Mn(super IV) state of dimanganase catalase from Thermus thermophilus and a series of structurally similar Mn(super III)Mn(super IV) complexes were investigated using continuous wave (CW) and pulsed EPR spectroscopy at X- (9 GHz), Q- (34 GHz) frequencies. An important experimental aspect is the elimination of Mn(super II) impurities, which give rise to very intense lines superimposed to the spectrum of the Mn(super III)Mn(super IV) complex.

Single-molecule spectroscopy on photosystem I pigment-protein complexes

Article Abstract:

Photophysical properties of low-energy antenna chlorophylls were analyzed from the cyanobacterium Synechococcus elongatus in individual Photosustem I complexes. The spectral analysis suggests that two antenna Chl pools are responsible for the red-most absorption of PSI from Synechococcus elongatus.
