Structural characterization and electron tunneling at n-Si/SiO2/SAM/liquid interface

Article Abstract:

Atomic force microscopy was used to characterize the surface morphology of alkylsilane-based self-assembled monolayer films that were prepared on n-Si with thin oxide layer. Photocurrent studies were also conducted to determine how the electron transfer depends on the thickness of the films. Results indicated that the films are compressed and that the alkane monolayer blocks the current flow, which was found to decrease as the chain length of the alkane increases.

Organization-induces charge redistribution in self-assembled organic monolayers on gold

Article Abstract:

The charge redistribution that occurs within dipolar molecules as they self-assemble into organized organic monolayer films is studied. It is shown that charge transfer acts to reduce the dipole-dipole interaction between the molecules but may either decrease or increase the molecule-to-surface dipole moment.

Single molecule spectroscopy studies of diffusion in mesoporous silica thin films

Article Abstract:

The diffusion and surface adsorption in sol-gel-derived mesoporous silica thin films are studied using single molecule spectroscopy. The results have shown that both water and surfactant play vital roles in governing matrix interactions and mass transport.
