Structural control of the photodynamics of Boron-dipyrrin complexes

Article Abstract:

Boron-dipyrrin chromophores containing a 5-aryl group with or without internal steric hindrance toward aryl rotation was synthesized and then characterized via X-ray diffraction, static and time-resolved optical spectroscopy, and theory. It is revealed that the critical role of aryl-ring rotation in governing the excited state dynamics and fluorescence properties of the dyes and the result should facilitate the further use of these class of dyes and related systems as optical probes in the life science.

Effects of multiple pathways on excited-state energy flow in self-assembled wheel-and-spoke light-harvesting architectures

Article Abstract:

The dynamics of excited-state energy flow in the two cyclic hexameric arrays, Z[n.sub.5]Fb and Z[n.sub.4]F[b.sub.2], as well as three self-assembled host-guest complexes, Z[n.sub.6].DPFbO, Z[n.sub.5]Fb.DPFbO, and Z[n.sub.4]F[b.sub.2].DPFbO is reported. The results collectively suggest designs for similar host-guest complexes that are expected to exhibit much more efficient light harvesting and excitation trapping at the central guest chromophore.

Effects of hydrogen bonding and structure of the accessory bacteriochlorophylls on charge separation in Rb. capsulatus reaction centers

Article Abstract:

Resonance Raman studies indicates that mutations result in hydrogen-bonding interactions as well as significant perturbations to the structure of the bacteriochlorophyll macrocycles. Effects of hydrogen bonding and structure of the accessory bacteriochlorophylls on charge separation in Rb. capsulatus reaction centers are studied.
