Structural studies on the hydration of L-glutamic acid in solution

Article Abstract:

A combination of neutron diffraction augmented with isotopic substitution and computer modeling using empirical potential structure refinement is used to extract detailed structural information for L-glutamic acid dissolved in 2 M NaOH solution. This method of extracting information from solution on an atomic scale is well proven for other liquids but has not previously been used to determine correlations in a system containing amino acids in solution.

Evolution of the local structure around Ti atoms in NaAlH(sub 4) doped with TiCl(sub 3) or Ti(sub 13).6THF by ball milling using x-ray absorption and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy

Article Abstract:

X-ray absorption and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy are used to study the structure of Ti atoms in NaAlH(sub 4) doped with TiCl(sub 3) or I(sub 13).6THF by the ball milling method. The results suggest that the reversible hydrogen capacity of the structure reduces with the increasing number of cycles and is directly related to the decreasing reaction rate.
