Structure of heteroepitaxial thin films of hafnium diboride grown on a Hf(0001) surface as determined by scanning tunneling microscopy

Article Abstract:

Scanning tunneling microscopy was used to characterize the initial stages of epitaxial growth of HfB2 on a Hf(0001) surface. The form of heteroepitaxial growth is determined not only by the degree of lattice matching but also by the relative surface energies of film and substrate.

Single-molecule observations of the adsorption sites of methyl isocyanide on Pt(111) by low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy

Article Abstract:

The local structure of methyl isocyanide (CNCH3) adsorbed on Pt(111) is investigated using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). Results reveal that at higher coverages, the CNCH3 molecules are observed to occupy both on-top and two-fold bridge sites.

Effects of subsurface boron and phosphorus on surface reactivity of Si(001): Water and ammonia adsorption

Article Abstract:

The effect of subsurface boron and phosphorus on the surface chemical properties of Si(001) is studied. The adsorption behaviors of water and ammonia between B-or P-modified and clean Si(001) surfaces are compared.
