Structure, thermal stability, and deformation of multibranched carbon nanotubes synthesized by CVD in the AAO template

Article Abstract:

Structure, thermal stability and deformation of multibranched carbon nanotubes, which are grown by the pyrolysis of acetylene in an anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) template with or without the catalytic Co particles at the pore bottom, is described. Results indicate that the internal surface of the alumina pores play an important role in the decomposition of acetylene, since the tube walls have the same structures in the presence or absence of Co particles.

Purification and characterization of single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) obtained from the gas-phase decomposition of CO (HiPco process)

Article Abstract:

A purification method is presented for extracting the Fe metal catalysts and non-SWNT carbon from nanotubes produced by the high pressure CO disproportionation (HiPco) process and a multistage purification method is investigated. Metal catalyzed oxidation at low temperature is shown to selectively remove non-SWNT carbon and permit extraction of iron with concentrated HCl.
