Surface area measurement of functionalized single-walled carbon nanotubes

Article Abstract:

Surface area measurements (SSA) for a series of functionalized single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) and hydrogen adsorption measurements are reported using samples determined to exhibit the highest surface area. Treatment with a concentrated 1:1 nitric/sulphuric acid mixture followed by high-temperature baking at 1000 degree centigrade was found to increase the specific surface area of both functionalized and unfunctionalized nanotubes.

Roles of metal-support interaction in growth of single- and double-walled carbon nanotubes studied with diameter-controlled iron particles supported on MgO

Article Abstract:

The role of the metal-support interaction is investigated by employing iron particles with a mean diameter of 9.8 nm supported on crystalline magnesia (MgO) powder. The findings provide valuable information on the nanotube growth mechanism and could be applied to the diameter controlled or large-scale synthesis of nanotubes on support materials.

Work functions and surface functional groups of multiwall carbon nanotubes

Article Abstract:

Ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy has been used to study the work function and density of states of multiwall carbon nanotubes. Results indicate that oxidative treatments increase the work function and influence the valence bands DOS.
