Surface plasmon enhancement of two- and three-photon absorption of Hoechst 33 258 dye in activated gold colloid solution

Article Abstract:

Experimental evidence of the strong surface plasmon enhancement of two- and three-photon absorption of Hoechst 33 258 in an aqueous solution containing activated gold colloid is presented. The 480-fold enhancement in two-photon absorption and 30-fold in three-photon absorption are predominantly attributed to the electric field enhancement through surface plasmon resonance.

Conjugated thiol linker for enhanced electrical conduction of gold-molecule contacts

Article Abstract:

Single-molecule electrical conduction studies are used to evaluate the way molecular linking unit influences the tunneling efficiency in metal-molecule-metal junctions. The results demonstrate that the molecule with conjugated double thiol linkers displays higher conduction in gold-molecule-gold junctions than non-conjugated single thiol-gold contacts.

Synthesis of gold nanoparticles by laser ablation in toluene: Quenching and recovery of the surface plasmon absorption

Article Abstract:

Gold nanoparticles are synthesized by laser ablation of a gold plate in toluene, which do not show their characteristic surface plasmon absorption (SPA) and are found to be included in graphitic matrix. The recovery of the nanoparticle SPA is possible by oxidizing the carbon matrix thereby obtaining some control on the activity of this absorption.
