Surface potential switching by metal ion complexation/decomplexation using bipyridinethiolate monolayers on gold

Article Abstract:

The surface potential switching on gold(111) surfaces is induced by complexation/decomplexation reactions of a bipyridine (BP) derivative and palladium(II) chloride, as observed by Kelvin probe force microscopy (KFM). The dipole moment estimated by the surface potentials is much smaller than the calculated value, indicating that mechanisms for the reduction of the surface dipole moment exist in real monolayers prepared by the microcontact printing (CP) technique.

Scanning tunneling microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and electrochemical characterization of 2-napthalenethiol self-assembled monolayers on the Au surface: A study of bridge-mediated electron transfer in Ru(NH3)(sub 6)(super 2+)/ Ru(NH3)(sub 6)(super 3+) redox reactions

Article Abstract:

The structure, adsorption kinetics and barrier properties of self-assembled monolayers of 2-napthalenethiol on Au were studied using electrochemical techniques, grazing-angle Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, and scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). The results of cyclic voltammetric and impedance measurements using redox probes show that 2-napthalenethiol on Au forms a stable and reproducible, but moderately blocking, monolayer.

Chiral ordering and conformational dynamics for a class of oligo-phenylene-ethynylenes on Au(111)

Article Abstract:

Scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) is used to characterize the adsorption structures formed from a class of planar organic molecules on the Au(III) surface under ultrahigh vacuum conditions. The results have shown the molecule-molecule interactions to be of van der Waals character, despite the compounds having functional moieties capable of forming intermolecular hydrogen bonds.
