Surface-treated activated carbons as catalysts for the dehydration and dehydrogenation reactions of ethanol

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to prepare two activated carbons from olive stones with various levels of activation and oxidized with a (NH4)2S2O8 solution for different periods of time to introduce various amounts of oxygen surface complexes. Results indicated that some surface active sites for dehydrogenation were lost because some hydrogen remained bound to the sites. Findings also showed that the formation of dehydrogenation catalysts correlated with increases in the oxidation of carbons.

Dynamic states of V2O5 supported on SnO2/SiO2 and CeO2/SiO2 mixed-oxide catalysts during methanol oxidation

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze a series of V2O5 supported on the SnO2/SiO2 and CeO2/SiO2 mixed oxides during methanol oxidation using in situ Raman spectroscopy. The in situ Raman spectrometer was characterized by a quartz cell, a sample holder and a triple-grating spectrometer. Experimental results indicated that tin oxide generated a surface SnOx overlayer on silica surface resulting from the absence of Raman features of SnO2 crystallite.

Isotope exchange for gas-phase acetic acid and ethanol at aqueous interfaces: a study of surface reactions

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze isotope exchange for deuterated gas-phase acetic acid and ethanol in contact with water droplets. A droplet train apparatus was utilized to carry out the analysis. The stream of droplets were generated by a vibrating orifice. Experimental results indicated that a finite rate of entering the partially solvated state influenced the plateaus in isotope exchange during high and low pH.
