Surfactant adsorption at the salt/water interface: Comparing the conformation and interfacial water structure for selected surfactants

Article Abstract:

The surface-specific technique, vibrational sum-frequency spectroscopy are employed to examine the effect of surfactant adsorption on the bonding interactions and orientation of interfacial water molecules through the alteration of electric properties in the interfacial region. The results indicate that there are significant changes to the adsorption density, the structure of the adsorbed self-assembled monolayer, the charge in the interfacial region, and the overlying water molecule network as a function of the composition of the various adsorbed surfactant ions.

Charge reversal behavior at the CaF2/H2O/SDS interface as studied by vibrational sum frequency spectroscopy

Article Abstract:

The in situ spectroscopic measurements of charge reversal behavior and surfactant bilayer formation at the salt/aqueous solution interface are reported. Direct measurements of the adsorption of the anionic surfactant, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), from an aqueous solution to the surface of the ionic, semisoluble solid CaF2 (fluorite) are presented.

Isolated molecular ion solvation at an oil/water interface investigated by vibrational sum-frequency spectroscopy

Article Abstract:

The structure, orientation, and intertmolecular hydrogen bonding environment of H2O molecules solvating molecular ion of surfactants adsorbed at the organic/water interface is examined. The vibrational sum-frequency spectroscopy is used for this purpose.
