The interaction between PEO-PPO-PEO triblock copolymers and ionic surfactants in aqueous solution studied using light scattering and calorimetry

Article Abstract:

The association of sodium docecyl sulfate (SDS) and PEO-PEO-PEO copolymers, and several methods such as nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), fluorescence spectroscopy, various scattering techniques, and calorimetry are used to discuss their interaction. It is concluded that at the concentration the copolymer micelles start to disintegrate with the accompanied rehydration of the PPO blocks and a small surfactant-rich complex is formed.

Self-assembly in a catanionic mixture with an aminoacid-derived surfactant: From mixed micelles to spontaneous vesicles

Article Abstract:

A study investigates the ability of a novel lysine-derived surfactant with a gemini-like architecture, designated 12-Lys-12, to form in aqueous solution, catanionic vesicles with an oppositely charged synthetic surfactant. Results show that in a dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB)-rich side micelle-to-vesicle transition takes place via a discontinuous process, involving first limited micellar growth and then phase separation.

Small-angle X-ray scattering, light scattering, and NMR study of PEO-PPO-PEO triblock copolymer/cationic surfactant complexes in aqueous solution

Article Abstract:

A study is carried out on the formation of triblock copolymer/surfactant complex by mixing a nonionic pluronic polymer (PEO-PPO-PEO) with a cationic surfactant, hexadecyltrimethylammonium (CTAC). The studied copolymer (denoted P123, EO(sub 20)PO(sub 68)EO(sub 20)) forms micelles with a radius of 10 nm and a molecular weight of 7.5 x 10(super 5).
