Thermal chemistry of 1-methyl-1-cyclopentene and methylene cyclopentane on Pt(111) surfaces: Evidence for double-bond isomerization

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted on the surface chemistry of 1-methyl-1-cyclopentene (1MC[p.sup.minus]) and methylene cyclopentane (MeCp) on Pt(111) in order to test the potential contribution of allylic intermediates to the conversion of those olefins. No evidence of allylic intermediate formation was obtained under the experimental conditions, but some ring enlargement was seen to occur with both molecules to produce benzene, also determining that the position of the double bond in the molecules is central to the definition of their thermal chemistry.

Charge transfer from metallic single-walled carbon nanotube sensor arrays

Article Abstract:

The transduction of molecular adsorption through charge transfer through predominantly metallic single-walled carbon nanotubes is demonstrated using arrays of metallic carbon nanotubes as sensors. A selective decay of features in the Raman spectra suggests that an electrical response to SOCl2 occurs mainly through large dimetallic nanotubes and vertical shifts of drain current upon gate modulation further supports this mechanism.

Chemistry of methoxonium on (2 X 1)Pt(110)

Article Abstract:

The chemistry of methoxanium on (2 X 1)Pt(110) suing mainly TPD is characterized. The results concluded that the methoxonium on surfaces is true cation that reacts almost identically to a cation in solution.
