Thermodynamic basis for cluster kinetics: Prediction of the fragility of marginal metallic glass-forming liquids

Article Abstract:

The cluster kinetics above the liquidus temperature, [T.sub.1], to acquire information of the fragility of the marginal metallic glasses (MMGs) system is studied due to the inaccessibility of the supercooled region of MMG within the experimental time window. Different from the bulk metallic glasses (BMGs) and nonmetallic materials, MMG materials with poor glass-forming ability exhibit a unique dependence of liquid fragility on the average height of the energy barriers between minima.

Thermodynamic studies on the interaction of antibodies with [Beta]-amyloid peptide

Article Abstract:

Isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) and surface plasmon resonance are used to provide a quantitative thermodynamic analysis of the interaction between soluble monomeric A[Beta](1-40) and muse monoclonal antibodies (mAb). Each antibody species is found to possess two independent and equal binding sites for A[Beta] with binding constants in the range of [10.sup.7] to [10.sup.8] [M.sup.-1].

Thermal vacancy effects on the thermodynamic properties and stability of fullerites

Article Abstract:

The influence of thermal vacancies on equilibrium thermodynamic properties of the high-temperature phase of fullerites is studied taking into account the strong anharmonicity of the lattice vibrations. The influence of the lattice defects on the specific heats of fullerites is negligible, since a dominant contribution to them is given by intramolecular degrees of freedom.
