Two-dimensional miscibility studies-the analysis of interaction between long-chain alcohols and semifluorinated alkanes

Article Abstract:

The results of phase behavior studies of 2D binary systems involving four different semifluorinated alkanes (SFAs) and two fatty alcohols, tetradecanol and docosanol, is presented. It is observed that the addition of docosanol into an SFA monolayer exerts a condensing effect, contrary to tetradecanol and SFAs with a long perfluorinated segment mix to larger extent with alcohols as compared to short perfluorinated segment.

Molecule/metal surface interactions evidenced quantum mechanically via tip-induced CS (sub 2) interaction with friedel oscillations on Au {111}

Article Abstract:

Submonolayer coverage of CS (sub 2) adsorbed on Au {111} at 4 was studied using scanning tunneling microscopy. The adsorption of the site is explained in terms of the substrate electron density, strong tip/molecule interaction are shown to be prevalent in this system at negative tip biases and yield images showed reversed corrugation.

Micromechanics of surface-grafted hyaluronic acid gels

Article Abstract:

Films of soft gels of hyaluronic acid (HA) are covalently grafted to glass substrates fractionalized with aminosilane monolayers, to design models of tissue surfaces. The amoeba-like cells of the slime mold Dictyostelium discoideum adhere to the HA film, spontaneously, is shown.
