US: SLOW GROWTH SEEN IN COATINGS MARKET

Article Abstract:

A study by the market research institute Kusumgar, Nerlfi & Growney predicts the US market for paints and varnishes to grow at an annual rate of 1-2% from just under US$ 18mn . The sales of solvent-based coatings are forecast to grow by less than 1% from US$ 9bn at present, while those of water-based coatings should increase 2% annually from US$ 7.5bn at present. Growth in the powder coatings market is estimated at 6% per year (from US$ 1bn) and in radiation-cured coatings 7% (US$ 300mn).

US: FORECAST FOR OEM COATINGS GROWTH

Article Abstract:

A study by Frost & Sullivan predicts the US market for OEM coatings to grow from US$ 6bn in 1999 to US$ 7.4bn in 2006. Excluding powder coatings, the market is likely to grow from US$ 4.97bn to US$ 5.81bn. Beside powder coatings, the growth segments will include radiation-cured coatings. Margins will be under pressure especially in the liquid coatings segment.
