AUSTRIA: INVESTMENTS BY ADLER

Article Abstract:

The Austrian Schwaz-based company Adler , a producer of wood coatings, is to spend EUR 5.1mn on the construction of a fully-automated warehouse and reorganise logistics. In spring 2000 Adler will also start construction of the extension of the R&D building. This project involves an investment of EUR 7.3mn in the next two years. The number of staff is to be increased by 5% in year 2000. For year 2000 Adler expects a 6% increase in turnover from Sch 720mn (up 5.4%) in 1999. Exports contribute about 25% to sales and go to Germany and Switzerland (through sales subsidiaries) and to Italy, France and Greece. In 1999 Adler produced 13,000 tonnes of coatings.

Poland: Paint makers' profits fall in 2000

Article Abstract:

In year 2000 the gross margins of Polish producers of paints and coatings fell to 2.5% on average from 4.6% in 1999. Net margins declined from 2.6% to 1.1%. At the same time, the industry's turnover grew 5.7% to Zl 1.695bn. The industry's debts grew from Zl 275mn to Zl 325.6mn, while investments decreased from Zl 86.4mn to Zl 73.5mn. The industry comprised 27 companies (24 in 1999) with 5,063 (5,499) staff.
