US: GROWTH FORECAST FOR PAINT MARKET TO 2004

The Freedonia Group of Cleveland, Ohio, predicts the consumption of paints and varnishes in the US to grow at an annual rate of 5.6% to US$ 8.9bn by 2004. The value growth is explained partly with a trend towards more expensive raw materials. While losing market share, solvent-based coatings will continue to play a key role in the US market in 2004. High solids will gain ground.

Article Abstract:
The Powder Coatings Institute reports that in 1999 demand for powder coatings in the US increased 12.8%. Production grew from 258.3mn lb to 291.3mn lb. The motor vehicle industry accounted for 16.4% of consumption, machinery and equipment makers 15.2%, producers of garden equipment 7.6% and the construction sector 3.3%.
