Kawakami Paint of Japan, which holds 30% of the Japanese market for motorbike coatings, is planning to set up production in Vietnam. The medium-sized coatings producer is thus following the strategies of Japanese motorbike makers. Kawakami Paint has signed a cooperation agreement with a Vietnamese state-owned coatings producer concerning deliveries to Japanese motorbike manufacturers. Demand for motorbikes in Vietnam is growing rapidly. There is local production.

3 H-Lacke Lackfabrik Hammen GmbH & Co, a German producer of wood coatings with an annual turnover of DM 80mn, is hoping to see a marked increase in exports to China. The company has been cooperating since April 1997 with Windhorst-Handels GmbH/Windhorst-Holding GmbH of Rahden , which is handling the marketing in China. In the longer term, 3-H products might be produced in China under licence out of materials supplied by the German company.

Bitumenlacke in China

Article Abstract:

Demand for bitumen varnishes in China is forecast to rise to 20,000 tonnes in 2000 and 24,000 tonnes in 2005. In the last five years China's local production has been about 11,000-15,000 tonnes per year, or 1% of the country's total coatings production. There are more than 60 producers, with Guangzhou Paint Plant, Anhoi Tianchang Lampfitting Factory and Shanghai Coatings Corporation accounting for about 50% of the output.
