Volumetric study of modified beta-cyclodextrin/hydrocarbon and /fluorocarbon surfactant inclusion complexes in aqueous solutions

Article Abstract:

The apparent molar volumes of a homologous class of hydrocarbon and perfluorocarbon surfactants were investigated in water and in binary solvent systems at 25 degrees Celsius using the volumetric technique. Experimental results showed that the magnitudes of the apparent molar volumes of the surfactants and 2,6-di-O-methyl-beta-cyclodextrin (CD) and 6-(2-hydroxypropyl)-beta-CD are greater in ternary solutions than in the binary aqueous systems. In addition, the apparent molar volumes of the modified CD and the surfactants at infinite dilution in ternary solutions depend on the magnitude of the binding constant, the mole ratio of the host to guest species, the alkyl chain length of the surfactant and the physicochemical properties of the CD.

Structural studies and computer simulation of the inclusion of aromatic hydrocarbons in a zinc 2,6-naphthalene dicarboxylate framework compound

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to investigate the structural response of a zinc 2,6- naphthalene dicarboxylate framework solid, isostructural with MOF-105, to the inclusion during crystallization of dimethylformide, benzene, toluene and p-xylene. The findings indicate that the binding energies of m-aylene within the structure are less favorable than those for p-xylene, as a result of the distortion of the framework required to accommodate the m-xylene.
