Water splitting in H2 and O2 on new Sr2M2O7 (M = Nb and Ta) photocatalysts with layered perovskite structures: factors affecting the photocatalytic activity

Article Abstract:

Issues concerning the splitting of photocatalytic water from a viewpoint of light energy conservation are presented. Latest research has sought to identify new photocatalysts.

Water splitting into H(sub 2) and O(sub 2) on alkali tantalate photocatalysts ATaO(sub 3) (A = Li, Na, and K)

Article Abstract:

The optimum conditions of the preparation and photocatalytic reactions on alkali tantalates are investigated to improve photocatalytic activities. Alkali tantalate ATaO3 (A = Li, Na, and K) photocatalysts with perovskite-like structure indicate activities for water splitting into H2 and O2 under UV irradiation.

Time resolved infrared spectroscopy of K3Ta3B2O12 photocatalysts for water splitting

Article Abstract:

Electrons photoexcited in [K.sub.3][Ta.sub.3][B.sub.2][O.sub.12], an efficient photocatalyst for the water-splitting reaction driven by ultraviolet light (UV), are observed using time-resolved IR absorption spectroscopy with microsecond resolution. When the catalyst is irradiated with 266nm light pulses, a structureless absorption appears at 3000-1500 [cm.sup.-1], which is assigned to absorption by electrons UV-excited and then trapped in mid-gap states.
