Zwitterion headgroup orientation correlation, mobility, and the domain structure of membranes

Article Abstract:

Solutions of the unilamellar liposomes from dimyristoylphosphatidylcholine and from a mixture of dimyristoyl- and dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (mole fraction x=0.5) are investigated. Based on a theoretical model that considers the internal electric fields of the dielectrically heterogeneous liquids, the vesicle radius, the zwitterion relaxation time, a relaxation time distribution parameter, and a quantity that is directly related to the dipole orientation correlation factor are calculated from the measured spectra.

Structure of electrorheological fluids under an electric field and a shear flow: Experiment and computer simulation

Article Abstract:

The structure of electrorheological (ER) fluids, subjected to both an electric field and a shear flow, is investigated by using a computer simulation and an experimental approach. The results show that it is possible to achieve different patterns or microstructure and desired macroscopic properties of colloidal suspensions like ER fluids, magnetorheological suspensions, ferrofluids and electromagnetorheological fluids by applying external fields and simultaneously a shear flow.

Planar membranes interaction

Article Abstract:

A study analyzed the system of two parallel planar, arbitrarily charged surface immersed in a solution containing only one ionic species, the counterions under a mean field Poisson-Boltzmann approach. Results reveal that the system of two planar parallel dissociating membranes acts as a buffer for pressure values and for counterionic concentration values in regions interior to and far from the membranes.
