1,1'-binaphthyl dimers, oligomers, and polymers: molecular recognition, asymmetric catalysis, and new materials

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to examine the monomeric chiral binaphthl compounds. The application of multibinaphthyl-based chiral hosts to molecular recognition as well as the application of multibinaphthyls and polybynaphthyls to organic changes with focus on asymmetric catalysis are described. The chirality, rigidity and conjugation of such binaphthyl molecules provide greater opportunity in the design of new materials with potentially exciting applications.

Review of vinyl graft copolymerization featuring recent advances toward controlled radical-based reactions and illustrated with chitin/chitosan trunk polymers

Article Abstract:

This article discusses the kinetics of vinyl polymerization and the basic mechanism of radical-based 'grafting from" copolymerization. Conditions necessary for grafting a trunk polymer with minimum homopolymerization along with the importance of graft polymers in improving the mechanical properties of composites are also described.
