Activation of oxygen nucleophiles in enzyme catalysis

Article Abstract:

The application of certain methods to enzyme reactions for ascertaining how the environment of the enzyme active site affects the reactivity of oxygen nucleophiles, with an emphasis on alcohols is highlighted. Clear evidence is provided by physical chemistry that small increases in electron density on nucleophilic oxygen atoms could result in dramatic rate enhancements for nucleophilic displacements.

Energetic aspects of cyclic pi-electron delocalization: Evaluation of the methods of estimating aromatic stabilization energies

Article Abstract:

An assessment of cyclic-pi-electron delocalization usually requires comparisons with nonaromatic model compounds or is derived from the nonadditivity of some property based on data for nonaromatic reference. The methods for determining aromatic stabilization energies show the great importance of choosing an appropriate reaction scheme to achieve reliable results.

Tautomeric equilibria in relation to pi-electron delocalization

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the relations between the characteristics of pi-electron delocalization and tautomeric equilibria in selected systems are discussed. Tautomeric equilibria are very important intramolecular proton-transfer reactions, which by definition are associated with changes in pi-electron distribution.
