Assembly-line enzymology for polyketide and nonribosomal peptide antibiotics: Logic, machinery and mechanisms

Article Abstract:

Assembly lines for turning monomeric amino acids and/or acyl-CoAs into complex oligomeric natural products are remarkable protein machines. In polyketide synthase and nonribosomal peptide synthetase systems, the organization of protein domains is based on covalent linkage within large polypeptides and the channeling of small molecule intermediates is similarly controlled by covalent tethering to way stations in the assembly line.

Free radical mechanisms in enzymology

Article Abstract:

A representative collection of radical-based enzymatic reactions for which significant new information has became available is highlighted. Amino acid, carbohydrate and hydrocarbon metabolism, detoxification of xenobiotics, coenzyme and cofactor biosynthesis, hormone metabolism, DNA biosynthesis and repair and antibiotic biosynthesis are the ones in which free radical is involved.

Chemistry and enzymology of vitamin B12

Article Abstract:

A review presented explores the relevant literature from the year 1999, when a comprehensive discussion on chemistry and enzymology of vitamin B12 appeared in the form of the volume 'Chemistry and Biochemistry of B12, edited by Ruma Banerjee, through the year 2003. A detailed coverage of the chemistry and enzymology of cobalt corrinoids is presented.
