A capillary electrophoresis study of the synthesis and stability of 1,2-decanedisulfate, 1-hydroxy-2-decanesulfate, and 2-hydroxy-1-decanesulfate

Article Abstract:

A capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE) study has been carried out to prepare and evaluate the stability of 1-hydroxy-2-decanesulfate, 2-hydroxy-1-decanesulfate and 1,2-decanedisulfate. Synthesis of 1,2-decanedisulfate, a two-headed surfactant, from 1,2-decanediol was studied in acidic and basic environments. Diethylbarbiturate was the best buffer for the CZE testing. Adding magnesium ions made it easier to resolve the hydroxydecanesulfate constitutional isomers. Mechanisms have been proposed.

Effects of superoxide anion generated from aromatic radical anions produced in nucleophilc aromatic photosubstitution reactions

Article Abstract:

From aromatic radical anions produced in nucleophilic aromatic photosubstitutions superoxide anion is generated when the reactions are carried out in nondeoxygenated solutions of polar aprotic solvents. The superoxide anions displace cyanide anion from acetonitrile and benzyl cyanide and ethoxide and methanesulfenate anions from some other compounds. Nondeoxygenated polar aprotic solvents would best be avoided in nucleophilic aromatic photosubstitution reactions.
