Electronic effects in the electric double layer

Article Abstract:

Double layer studies use the jellium model to give the actual distribution of particles and charges on the surface of an electric double layer. The double layer is formed at the interface of the electronic and ionic conductors in electrochemical reactions. The use of the model is limited to polycrystalline sp metals. Both the interface surface and the electron transfer in reactions of hot electrons through the double layer exhibit electronic effects. The introduction of pseudopotentials in the electron density gives a maxima at the lattice sites and a minima in between the lattice planes.

The nomenclature of polyoxometalates: how to connect a name and a structure

Article Abstract:

Systematic nomenclature is used in chemistry to serve as a clue for the full description of compounds or for retrieval purposes. In the study of polyoxometalates, however, the application of nomenclatures is awkward as these compounds have complicated structures and low symmetry. Thus, organic chemists have to resort to the use of trivial names for naming compounds as they are shorter and more convenient. The only drawback to this practice is that trivial names of polyoxometalates will not be easily understood by non-organic chemists.
