Macropolycyclic polyethers (cages) and related compounds

Article Abstract:

Various synthetic procedures were developed to facilitate the preparation of macropolycyclic crown ethers which could be used as receptor compounds for different ligands. These macropolycyclic compounds exhibited great stability and complexation properties. The substituents and donor groups involved in the formation of these compounds included polyethers, porphyrins, cryptophanes, carcerands and cavitands, quaternary ammonium salts and azaparacyclophanes. Furthermore, the macropolycyclic polyethers could either take a spherical, cyclindrical or polygonal shape.

Thermodynamic and kinetic data for macrocycle interaction with cations, anions, and neutral molecules

Article Abstract:

The thermodynamic and kinetic data for the interactions between different macrocycles and inorganic and organic cations, anions and neutral molecules are presented. The reactions are performed under different experimental conditions and in various solvents. The macrocycle selectivities depend on the host, guest, solvent, shape and topology of the macrocycle, chelate ring size, conformational flexibility or rigidity, ring substituents, arrangements of the side arms, number, type and arrangement of donor atoms in the ring.

Thermodynamic and kinetic data for macrocycle interaction with neutral molecules

Article Abstract:

Extensive thermodynamic and kinetic data for the interaction of macrocycles with neutral are presented. These data provide a quantitative base for probing into the effects of macrocycle and guest parameters on the thermodynamic and kinetic stabilities of the resulting complexes. The study seeks to support the rational design of new macrocycles that can form complexes with predetermined stabilities and chemical behavior.
