Microphysics and heterogeneous chemistry of polar stratospheric clouds

Article Abstract:

Heterogeneous chemistry and microphysics of polar stratospheric clouds have been studied. Liquid and solid particles in such clouds are an important factor in newly lower levels of ozone in the stratosphere. On and within the particles, surface-catalyzed reactions and diffusion-controlled processes convert halogens from rather inert reservoir species into forms that destroy ozone. The halogens come mostly from human activities. It seems that rates of key reactions are not well enough evaluated to make possible reliable evaluation of observed ozone losses using global models.

Chemistry and microphysics of polar stratospheric clouds and cirrus clouds

Article Abstract:

The polar stratospheric clouds and cirrus clouds made of ice particles are discussed in terms of the latter's chemistry, nucleation, and microphysical properties influencing former's formation. Data are discussed in relation to the implication of polar stratospheric and cirrus clouds in the formation of Anatartic ozone hole and green-house warming, respectively.

In search of perfection: understanding the highly defect-selective chemistry of anisotropic etching

Article Abstract:

The anisotropic etchants that reveal a specific crystallographic plane, target specific defect sites on a surface. The methods which rely on a combination of scanning tunneling microscopy, kinetic Monte Carlo simulations, and infrared spectroscopy is developed to quantify the reactions.
