Photocatalysis on TiO2 surfaces: principles, mechanisms, and selected results

Article Abstract:

The rate of chemical transformation in a heterogeneous photocatalysis system involving TiO2 surfaces is dependent on the photoactivity of the absorbate molecules and the catalyst substrates. Electron transfer takes place between the absorbate molecules in an inert oxide substrate. The catalyst only creates a regulated atmosphere for a better molecular interaction and does not get involved in the photoexcitation or chemical reaction process.

Environmental applications of semiconductor photocatalysis

Article Abstract:

A comparative study of various procedures used for the remediation of hazardous wastes suggest that semiconductor photocatalysis is an efficient technique for water purification, water disinfection, hazardous waste remediation and air purification. Mechanisms of semiconductor photolysis of a few reactions are discussed. Mechanistic data help interpret the heterogeneous photochemistry of metal oxide systems.

Phase transitions of aqueous atmospheric particles

Article Abstract:

The review focuses on the chemistry of phase transitions in concentrated aqueous salt particles as they occur in the atmosphere. Discussion on the laboratory work on the phase transitions of deliquescence and efflorescence salts as influenced by relative humidity, ice formation in the upper troposphere, and in polar stratophere is presented.
