Scanning tunneling microscopy manipulation of complex organic molecules on solid surfaces

Article Abstract:

Few case studies showing the enormous capabilities of scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) manipulations are analyzed to explore basic physiochemical properties of adsorbed molecules. The role of STM manipulations are emphasized while studying the coupling between the multiple degrees of freedom of adsorbed molecules, the phenomenon of molecular molding and the possibility of creating and breaking individual chemical bonds in a controlled manner.
