Synthesis of polyquinane natural products: an update

Article Abstract:

Various new strategies have been developed for the synthesis of polyquinane, with many methodologies operationally simple and efficient while exhibiting high regioselectivity and stereo-selectivity. Some of the new methodologies, such as higher order intramolecular cycloadditions, can also be used to quickly assemble five-membered rings. Polyquinanes are a subgroup of terpenes and consist of five-membered rings, which is of great interest to synthetic chemists. Some molecules have still not yet been totally synthesized, but polyquinane synthesis is likely to remain a key area of interest in forthcoming years.

Biotin: a timeless change for total synthesis

Article Abstract:

Biotin is ideal for organic synthesis since it offers a wide diversity in synthetic techniques. However, several issues remain unclear regarding the sequences employed in biotin commercial production. Further studies focused on microbial production are needed to find an alternative to synthetic manufacturing. Meanwhile, developments in the applications and research on biotin are largely attributed to Hoffmann-La Roche scientists.
