Composite poly(p-phenylenevinylene)-Nafion thin films

Article Abstract:

Composite thin films of poly(p-phenylenevinylene) and of Nafion, a polyelectrolyte, have been made by polymerizing 1,1'-((p-phenylene) bis(methylene)bis(tetrahydrothiophenium))dichloride that is electrostatically bound to Nafion. The composite films are fluorescent to a high degree and photoluminescence and absorbtion spectra are like those of poly(p-phenylenevinylene). It appears that the dicationic monomer is in less than 15% of the cation-exchange sites in the Nafion and that sites are thus available for other small cations to be bound.

Ketone coordination chemistry of the diborane t-BuCH==C(B(C6F5)2)2

Article Abstract:

Reactions of the borane t-BuCH==C(B(C6F5)2)2, which is bifunctional, with simple Lewis bases have been studied to investigate the Lewis acidity of the borane. Ethereal bases bind very weakly or not at all. No adducts were detetable in solution. Some ketones did bind to the borane and acetone forms an adduct reversibly in solution. Low-temperature NMR spectroscopy gives evidence that the acetone binds to the more sterically accessible boron center that is trans to the t-Bu group.
