Three-dimensional H-bonded supramolecular complexes: synthesis and crystal structures of (Mn(mu-bpe)(H20)4)(ClO4)2.4(bpe).2H2O and (Mn(mu-bpe)(bpe)2(H20)2)(ClO4)2.bpe.H2O, where M = Zn, Ni and bpe = 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethane
Article Abstract:
Three-dimensional H-bonded supramolecular complexes have been studied with the synthesis of (Mn(mu-bpe)(H20)4)(ClO4)2.4(bpe).2H2O and (Mn(mu-bpe)(bpe)2(H20)2)(ClO4)2.bpe.H2O, where bpe = 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethane and M = Zn, Ni. IR spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction were used. The nickel and zinc compounds are isomorphous, having a metal-bpe molar ratio of 1:4. The manganese compound has an Mn-bpe ratio of 1:5 and is distinctly different from the nickel and zinc forms. The bridged bpe ligands make an infinite chain with the metal atoms and two other terminal bpe ligands are coordinated to the metal in positions trans to one another.

Synthesis, spectroscopy, and structures of the seven-coordinate complexes (CH3)2AsC(CF3)=C(CF3)As(CH3)2W(CO)2I2P(OC6H5)3 and ((CH3)2AsC(CF3)=C(CF3)As(CH3)2)2W(CO)Br2 and spectroscopy of related seven-coordinate complexes
Article Abstract:
(L-L)W(CO)3I2(L-L=(CH3)2AsC(CF3)=C(CF3)As(CH3)2) reacts with P(OC65)3, a monodentate phosphite, to form (L-L)W(CO)2I2P(OC6H5)3; (L-L)W(CO)3Br2 reacts with L-L to form (L-L)2W(CO)Br2. Both reactions represent new 7-coordinate complexes. The tungsten atom is 7-coordinate in both of the complexes, based on analyses by low-temperature X-ray diffraction. The geometry is closest to a monocapped octahedron arrangement. The capping group is a carbonyl in the dicarbonyl complex; the geometry is closest to a pentagonal 2-pyramid arrangement in the one-carbonyl complex.

Crystal structure, spectroscopic and magnetic studies, and antioxidative properties of catena-(diaqua(dihydro-orotato)manganese(II))
Article Abstract:
X-ray crystallography and UV-visible spectroscopy have been used to make and study the polynuclear manganese(II) complex of L-dihydroorotic acid, catena-(diaqua(dihydro-orotato)manganese(II)). Magnetic susceptibility measurements have been made. The complex is made up of polymer chains of manganese atoms bound by carboxylate bridges. The Mn-Mn distance in the chain is 4.724 angstroms. Radical scavenging properties of the complex have been compared to those of vitamin E and BHT. ESR spectroscopy was used as well as cyclic voltammetry.
