Telephones and answerphones

Article Abstract:

The United Kingdom retail market for telephone products expanded 15% to 224 million pounds sterling in 1994 from 195 million pounds sterling in 1989. Unit sales grew 40% while sales in real terms decreased 14%, suggesting a cut in average prices in all sectors. The telephone market is now virtually saturated, with more than 50% of adults owning at least two telephones and 93% owning at least one in 1994. Mobiles accounted for 32% of the market by value in 1993, cordless telephones accounted for 19%, TAMs (answerphones) accounted for 20% and fixed telephones 29%. The market is analysed.
