Micro Misconception

Article Abstract:

Speaking at a Technology Transfer Institute seminar, Bernard Mathaisel, a vice president in the Information Management and Systems Group at Temple, Barker & Sloane says it is likely microcomputers will not replace minis and mainframes in the office of the future, despite their versatility and low cost. He believes both micros and mainframes are needed and advocates an approach that will integrate one type of computer with another in order to employ the technology of each computer to its fullest. Mathaisel suggests that when a partnership is formed between the micro and mainframe, the micros can be used when a job can be distributed geographically, temporally, or by responsibility.

Neo-nonproliferation

Article Abstract:

Neo-nonproliferation is a new line of thought adopted by several US strategists who believe that counter-proliferation through military measures will be more effective than traditional policies in curbing nuclear proliferation. However, the success of conventional policies, which support the prevention of proliferation, in dealing with the nuclear threat invalidates the negative claims of neo-nonproliferation. Hence, pro-traditional experts should secure adequate political support in countering the threat posed by neo-nonproliferation.
